It's #DemoDay
We started the day on the front porch having our morning coffee; it's about 7:30 AM. Chris had already moved our truck and suburban from the front of the house to make room for the dumpster and crew to park.
About 7:55 a little black car shows up with 1 guy. We are thinking . . . oh no! Then a pickup truck shows ups with 3 more guys, then another with 2 more guys. These people are serious! Eventually a truck shows up and rolls off a dumpster in front of the house.
Chris reviews what is to be removed and what is to stay with the lead worker and they are ready to get started.
And so it begins. Banging and crumbling . . . our dog Copper is shaking. (He has always been a little skittish.) 3 guys are demoing the plaster and lath and 3 guys are using the bucket brigade method to bring it down the steps, out the front door, and into the dumpster.
Our plastic tunnel has been working well. No dust from the crew as yet!
On the other hand, Chris could not sit by idle so he started a little demo of his own in the sitting room. No prep, no plastic--so I have dust, but it is not from the crew!
By 1 pm the dumpster is full. It's tarped and off to the dump. The other workers continue to pull down the plaster and lath working until about 3 pm. At least they had a cooler day. Temperatures were in the low 70's. They will be back tomorrow for #DemoDay2.
Chris and I did not go upstairs while they were working, so now it was our time to see what was accomplished. O M G! Even though they hauled away a FULL dumpster of plaster, lath, and blown-in insulation, there is still so much left upstairs. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so I'll just give you some photos and a video to see how #DemoDay1 ended.
The Crew will be back tomorrow to finish removing the plaster and lath in the hallway walls and ceiling and finish the cleanup. I am so happy we hired this job out.
7:15 AM: Coffee on front porch.
7:30 AM: Truck with empty dumpster arrives.
#DemoDay2 begins.
Today we have a 5 man crew. Much the same as yesterday. Lots of banging, crumbling, and dragging buckets down the stairs, outside, and filling the dumpster.
Our old home is balloon framed--Balloon framing is a style of wood-house building that uses long, vertical 2" x 4"s for the exterior walls. These long "studs" extend uninterrupted, from the sill on top of the foundation, all the way up to the roof.--which means when a piece of plaster falls down the interior wall, you can here it drop all the way to the basement. Sounds like it is raining plaster inside the walls!
The crew did a great job cleaning up today. They had lots of nails to pull and insulation and dust to vacuum out of the opened walls. We definitely recommend Full Circle Removal for your demo or removal needs. Over the 2 days of demo and removal we had the opportunity to meet 12 different employees. Each worker was courteous, hard working, and professional.
