Never a Dull Moment

The air conditioner in our 2015 Suburban has only been working when it wants to work. No rhyme or reason to it's decision to blow cold air or hot air. Next week the local weather is predicting a heat wave--we could be in the low 90's all week! Which means the first stop on our travels today is Wind Gap Chevrolet.  We drop off the suburban and continue on to pick up load #2 of  the lumber list. It was an early start of the day and we are back home and unloaded by 9:30!

In order to level the floors and remove a few sags, Chris is shooting a few elevations in the basement. My job is easy--just hold the story pole so he can read the numbers. The bad part is I actually need to go down into the dungeon, I mean basement. It really isn't that bad, but after living in Texas for 18 years and not needing to deal with a stone-wall foundation basement, I was not looking forward to being there. Lucky for me, it didn't take too long.

Chris gets busy calculating and marking the beams in the basement that need to be raised. Using a 4 x 4, some cement blocks, lally column and jack, he begins to raise the joist in the locations that he has marked. I could hear some plaster cracking on the first floor . . .but remarkably not much damage!

Also on today's list is disconnecting the oil burner and oil tanks. We will be upgrading to natural gas so the furnace and oil tanks need to go. Now that they are disconnected, I can post them online for sale--cheap! Someone should be able to use them as the tanks look to be about 2 years old and the furnace was installed in 2010.

In the process of disconnecting the furnace, we found an envelope. Don't get too excited--no money! Although, it was something really cool. Inside the envelope was the original invoice from 1941 for the first oil burner/furnace (no, not the one that is currently installed) installed in the home when it was converted from a coal stoker to oil. I love finding these treasures.

One of the previously owners was also the town pharmacist. Take a close look at the NOTICE photo; it is written on a prescription pad.

I am on regular cleaning duty today. Cleaning the bathroom, bedroom, and first floor. Maria, Maria, wherefore art thou Maria? Did I mention we had a cleaning lady--Maria--for the past 18 years? Oh how I miss her. But this cleaning is very different; it is mostly DUST that finds itself into every possible nook and cranny. This has actually become a daily chore just to stay ahead of it.

Chevy dealer calls back; Suburban needs a new air conditioner compressor. We were never a believer in purchasing an extended warranty, but when we bought the Suburban, it had so many new, computerized, bells and whistles that Chris felt we should spring for the extended warranty. I am so glad we did. This was the third time we have used the extended warranty. Still incur a $250 deductible but that is much better than the entire invoice!

Since we have been eating out so often, I thought it might feel more normal if we actually eat at home this evening. A healthy meal was positively overdue. I made baked chicken breast with pico de gallo, and cheese, Caesar salad, and steamed veggies. It was appreciated and did feel good to eat at home--at the coffee table, while watching World News Tonight.

Ironicly, not that we would need heat, the temperature is expected to dip into the low 50's tonight.
