Post #DemoDay Cleanup
If you have ever lived through a renovation, you know the dust is NEVER ENDING. It doesn't matter how well you prepare, how many plastic barriers you install, the dust still gets through.
The hired crew - Full Circle Removal - did an awesome job--but the clean up was a rough clean up. So today Chris and I are concentrating on shopvacing the second floor.
Next Chris removed the non-bearing interior walls. Basically, that included the old closet walls from the front and middle bedroom and the wall between the middle and back bedroom. The space looks huge now that it is all open with the exception of the hallway wall. (The hallway wall is load bearing.)

The windows are really in bad shape. With everything exposed, it is clear they needed to be replaced. I am thinking about keeping a few of the weights from the windows. Some are 6.5 lbs and some are 7 lbs. Just don't know what I could do with them . . . but think it would be neat to save at least a few. Any ideas? Let me know! I will most likely pull out all of them and donate what I don't keep to a window rehab company.
That was enough physical work for today. We head to the lumber yard for our first load of lumber. The lumber yard delivers, but not the same day, hence the pickup ourselves. Since we are using Joe's (Chris' dad) old pick-up , we can only haul so much at a time due to the weight of the lumber. The truck is a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500. We can't overwork it as we need it to last through the rehab project. Round trip took about an hour and a half. Now Chris gets to unload it! Our backyard looks like a lumber yard.
Too tired to cook, we head out to another local hole in the wall for dinner. Chris orders a bacon-cheese burger and I ordered the mushroom swiss burger; both came with french fries and coleslaw. We each had a draft beer. Total bill: $22 I kid you not and it was good. We can't walk to The Sunset Bar & Grill but it was well worth the 6 mile drive.

The old blown-in insulation is a mess. It just keeps multiplying. Chris is knocking down the insulation that is stuck to the ceiling joist and I am vacuuming up the floors and walls. Slow and steady, 5 hours later, we have the demo section vacuumed and the debris removed.
